Knock Out Game

I'm sure that you have seen the headlines and even watched the videos of the latest game craze called Knock Out. If not, Google it and be prepared to be shocked. One would think that our society could not sink to the level of randomly hitting little old ladies, but apparently we have. As much as I hate watching this type of violence, it provides an important lesson to all of us to what our fellow citizen are perfectly happy to do to you for no other reason than boredom.

On a daily basis we are bombarded with stories of rape, murder, and assault. And now the perpetrators are taking video of the crimes and posting them online for the world to see, as if they are some sort of digital trophy to show their friends. It is hard to fathom, but empathy is not a trait that all of us have.

Just one assault or rape can change a persons life forever, and their spouses, families, and children are also affected. Those of us that teach at Crucible and most other schools implicitly understand these effects, have dealt with them first hand, and have taught numerous students who have been affected as well. The time invested in self-defense training pays dividends for your entire life. It is not fool proof, but when the time comes it will be the most important possession you have ever owned.

I am constantly asked by prospective students "how long will this take to learn?" There is no easy answer to that question, but in my mind the lesson never ends. We are constantly changing as people, and as the Knock Out game shows our society is constantly changing as well. At some point you may even want to teach others the lessons that you have learned. I have a sign above the door to my office that says "If it is important to you, you will make the time. If not, you will make an excuse." I can't think of a better way to describe the decision to take and as importantly stick with your self-defense training.
